How to Automate Ad Management with AI
Automate ad management across Meta, Google, and TikTok by connecting Xylo to your AI agent. From monitoring to full management in plain English, no code.
Manual ad management does not scale
A single account with 20 campaigns, each with a handful of ad sets and ads, has hundreds of moving parts to watch. Now multiply that across Meta, Google, and TikTok. Checking performance, adjusting budgets, pausing the losers, refreshing creative, and writing the Friday report can eat hours every day. The work is repetitive, and most of it follows patterns.
That is exactly the kind of work an AI agent is good at, once it can actually reach into your ad accounts. This guide shows how to get there with no code. You connect Xylo to an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT, then climb a simple ladder: monitor first, then let the agent recommend, then let it act. At each step you stay in control, and you move up only when you trust what you are seeing.
What Xylo is
Xylo is the connector that lets your AI agent work directly inside your Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google Ads, and TikTok ad accounts, in plain English. You connect your accounts once, point your AI app at Xylo, and then just talk to it. The agent does the real work across all three platforms and tells you what changed.
Under the hood, Xylo is an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets AI apps use outside tools. You do not need to know any of that to use it. The short version: Xylo gives your agent 300+ ad operations that cover essentially every Ads Manager surface, packed into 25 tools that load instantly in any AI client, and you reach all of it by asking.
Step 1: Connect, in about a minute
There is no infrastructure to stand up and nothing to install on a server.
- Create a free Xylo account. No credit card.
- Authorize Meta, Google, or TikTok through their normal OAuth screen and pick the account you want. Your tokens are encrypted (AES-256), and the agent never sees your credentials.
- Add Xylo as a connector in your AI app using this endpoint:
https://xylomcp.com/api/mcp
That endpoint works with Claude (on claude.ai or in Claude Desktop, via Connectors), ChatGPT (any paid plan, on the web, in Developer mode), Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, and anything else that speaks MCP.
Once it is connected, open a chat and confirm the agent can see your accounts:
List my connected ad accounts and show yesterday's spend and conversions for each one.
If that comes back with real numbers, you are ready to automate. Everything below is a prompt you type, not a script you maintain.
Step 2: Start with monitoring
The safest place to begin is read-only. Ask the agent to look, summarize, and flag. Nothing changes in your accounts, so you can build trust in the data before you let it touch anything.
A daily performance summary
Give me a one-screen summary of yesterday across Meta, Google, and TikTok: total spend, conversions, and blended cost per acquisition. Then list my single best and worst campaign by cost per result.
Because Xylo normalizes metrics across all three platforms, the agent can hand you one combined report instead of three tabs you have to reconcile by hand.
Anomaly checks
Compare yesterday to my trailing 7-day average. Flag any campaign where spend more than doubled or conversions fell by half. Skip anything spending under $10 a day so we ignore noise.
A standing report you can schedule
Every weekday morning, send me a short report: yesterday's results, anything that changed meaningfully versus last week, and the three things you would look at first today.
Run prompts like these for a week or two. You will quickly learn what normal looks like for your accounts, and you will see that the agent is reading the same numbers you would.
Step 3: Move from monitoring to recommendations
Next rung up: ask the agent to interpret, not just report. It still does not change anything. It tells you what it would do and why, and you decide.
Look at my last 7 days on Meta and Google. Tell me which campaigns you would pause, which you would scale, and which creative looks tired. Explain your reasoning, but do not change anything yet.
This is where Xylo's deeper tools earn their keep. The agent can pull diagnostics, score creative for hook strength, retention, and messaging, and judge each ad against your own account's KPIs rather than some generic benchmark.
Analyze the creative on my top-spending TikTok ad set. Rate hook strength and retention, and tell me whether it is beating or trailing my account average. Suggest one specific fix.
Or lean on the built-in Ad Creative Expert knowledge base:
My Meta cost per purchase has been climbing for two weeks. Walk me through the likely causes in order, and tell me what data would confirm or rule out each one.
You are now getting an analyst's read on all three platforms in one conversation. The only thing missing is action, and that is the next rung.
Step 4: Let the agent act, starting small
When the recommendations have been consistently right, start letting the agent do the low-risk work. The lowest-risk action of all is pausing obvious waste, because pausing only ever stops spend.
Pause any campaign across Meta, Google, and TikTok that has spent more than $75 in the last 3 days with zero conversions. List exactly what you paused and how much each one spent before you did it.
A natural next step is refreshing creative that has clearly fallen behind its siblings:
In each Meta ad set, find any ad with at least 1,000 impressions whose click-through rate is under half the ad set average and that has spent more than $25. Pause those and tell me which ones and why.
Notice the shape of every prompt: a clear condition, a clear action, and a request to report back. That last part matters. You always get a plain-English record of what changed, so nothing happens silently.
A safety note worth knowing: when the agent builds something new, like a fresh campaign or ad set, Xylo creates it PAUSED by default. Nothing spends until you review it and switch it on. So even "build me a Reels campaign targeting X" is safe to try, because the result waits for your approval.
Step 5: Hand over budget decisions
Budget moves are higher stakes, so save them for last and keep the guardrails explicit. The good news is that guardrails are just words in your prompt. You do not write a validation layer, you state the rules.
Rebalance my Meta budgets based on the last 7 days. Shift money toward campaigns with a lower cost per conversion and away from the expensive ones. Rules: never move a campaign's daily budget by more than 25% in one go, never set any daily budget below $15, and never let my total daily budget exceed $1,000. Show me the before and after for each campaign before you apply anything.
You can make the agent ask permission for anything large:
Apply the changes under $50 yourself. For any change above $50, stop and ask me first.
And you always have a kill switch, because nothing runs on a timer unless you set it up. If you want to pause everything, you say so:
Stop. Do not make any more changes today. Just monitor and report.
Guardrails worth stating out loud
| Guardrail | How you ask for it | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Change cap | "No more than a 25% budget change at once" | Prevents wild swings that confuse the platforms' delivery algorithms |
| Minimum data | "Only act on campaigns with at least 3 days of data" | Avoids decisions based on noise |
| Spend ceiling | "Total daily budget must stay under $X" | Protects you from a runaway mistake |
| Approval threshold | "Ask me before any change over $Y" | Keeps a human on the big calls |
| Always report | "Tell me exactly what you changed and why" | Gives you a clean audit trail |
A schedule, in plain English
You do not need cron jobs or a scheduler. Many AI apps can run a saved prompt on a recurring basis, and Xylo does the work each time it fires. A sensible cadence looks like this:
| Routine | How often |
|---|---|
| Morning summary across all platforms | Daily |
| Anomaly check versus last week | Daily |
| Pause obvious waste | Daily |
| Creative refresh review | Every few days |
| Budget rebalance | Weekdays |
| Full weekly report | Monday morning |
Set the ones you trust to run on their own, and keep the higher-stakes ones as a quick "approve or skip" each morning.
The progression, summarized
The whole point is to earn each new level of automation rather than flip every switch on day one.
- Weeks 1 to 2: monitoring only. Learn your baseline and trust the data.
- Weeks 3 to 4: let the agent recommend. You still make every call.
- Month 2: let it pause obvious waste and refresh tired creative.
- Month 3: hand over budget rebalancing with explicit guardrails.
- Month 4 and beyond: expand into audience building, cross-platform optimization, and standing reports that land in your inbox.
Each layer proves itself before you add the next. That is what makes the whole thing feel safe instead of scary.
For developers (optional)
Most people will never need this, but if you want to wire Xylo into your own scripts or data pipeline, there is a REST API too. Base URL https://api.xylomcp.com, authenticated with an x-api-key header. Meta endpoints live under /v1/..., Google under /v1/google/..., and TikTok under /v1/tiktok/.... Budgets are in dollars, new campaigns default to PAUSED, and responses come back as { data, meta, paging? }. See the API documentation for the full reference. For everyone else, the conversation is the interface.
Getting started
- Create your free Xylo account and connect Meta, Google, or TikTok. No credit card.
